I couldn't believe the turnout you guys were talking about. I could just imagine how crowded it was. Hope everyone is doing well along with business. See ya next time I'm home!!

Comment on Dinner at Flemings

First, you can't beat an evening of steak and cabernet - match made in heaven. Second, Adam's store introduced me to the great Perry Moore wine - however, Becky, his wife, has credited me with Adam's new "problem" - drinking more frequently. For all you wine lovers out there, the key to a great evening is to find which restaurants have a reasonable corkage policy (I consider $20 or less to be reasonable) and then go see Adam, Larry, or Steve for that great bottle of wine. Why pay $50 at a restaurant for a mediocre-at-best wine when you can spend that much for a top-notch wine and drink something truly worthy of a great steak; or whatever you want to eat?

A typical rule of thumb at restaurants is 2X - 3X retail price, so a $35 wine = $70-$100 at a restaurant. My recommendation - go buy a $50 wine from Adam and pay $20 to have it opened - much better experience!

Comment on Radio Appearances Thursday 3/20 and Friday 3/28

We had a great time yesterday with Jerry and Nick tasting Easter Wines. The first we tried was Del Rio Viognier, which sells for $19.99. I never had this wine before, and found it had excellent fruit which lingered. Really an excellent wine which would be great with ham on Easter.

The second wine we tried was X Winery Syratica, which is on special for $9.99 as we made a great purchase on this wine. This Syrah would be great with lamb. It is light on tannins, and tastes of blackberry. Really a great wine for under $10.00 (though I'm not sure it stands up as well at its normal price of around $17.99).

Comment on Radio Appearance 2/29

The first item we tasted at WKRS was the Monsieur Touton Vouvray (Chenin Blanc), which sells for $12.99. I found it very crisp, had a nice citrus nose, and finished clean and dry. A very nice wine for the summer.

We then tried a couple beers, neither of which I have tasted before. The first was Flying Dog Doggie Style (I didn't name it so don't blame me) which is a pale ale and sells for $9.99 per 6 pack. I found this to have an intense orange nose. The beer was pleasant, not real heavy, but with some hoppiness (or is that happiness). The second beer we tried was Three Floyds Dreadnaught Imperial Pale Ale which sells for $10.99/22oz bottle. This brew also had citrus on the nose, but not as much orange. I am not really into so much hops. If you love hops, you would love this as it had much more than the Doggie Style, but it was a bit too much for my taste.

Now, it's time to decide what to sample next week.
