Duckhorn Visit
I have to admit that I do not always go and taste wines with Steve and Larry. However, when Duckhorn enters the building, it is difficult to stay away. Thanks to Judith Britt, from Duckhorn, for coming all the way to Antioch to let us sample her wines, and also to Tom C. for bringing her out. See Tom, I am blogging it!!!!
First, we sampled the Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc. It is blended with about 1/4 Semillon. Nice grapefruit and lemon - but this is really no "deck" wine. It begs for food. I can only imagine that it was perfect with the Seafood Stew served at President Obama's Inauguration lunch. Alas, I was not invited. This wine is on the shelf and waiting for you.
Next, we tried their Goldeneye Pinot Noir. It was full and tasty with hints of vanilla. We don't have this vintage, but do have a recent one on the shelf. Then, it was Duckhorn Decoy. This is a blend that changes year to year, but is more affordable at around $30. Nice Bordeaux style.
Next were the Napa Merlot and Three Palms Vineyards Merlot. These are full, robust wines, which I would not mind aging and would recommend to even the dedicated Cabernet drinker. Finally, we tried the Paraduxx, which is predominately Zinfandel, with Cab, Merlot and Cab Franc blended in. This may have been my personal favorite. Red fruit flavors, with smooth tannins.
Honestly, you can not go wrong with any of these wines. But, I already knew that, which is why I went to try them in the first place.
