Valentine's Day

On Valentine's Day, we had Terra Andina in the store for a tasting.  All of the wines were very good, and great values.  The one that I enjoyed the most was the Carmenere/Carginan blend - I think it is around $15.  Thanks to Marty for coming out to pour.

After work, I went out to Tuscany in Wheeling for dinner.  I chose the Pio Cesare Barbera d'Alba.  While we don't carry it and I did not have it before, it seemed to be a good value on their wine list at $42.  I am familiar with the quality of Pio Cesare, which is famous for their Barolo.  I was eating a Pasta dish with scallops, mussels and shrimp in a spicy red sauce.  I would rate the food as OK, as well as the wine.  While I thought it was fine, my friend did not like it at all.  He found it to have an alcohol taste.  I did not agree, but found the wine light and not a great pairing with my food.  I did find it interesting how we were eating the same main course and had very different impresssions of the wine.  To each his own I guess.

Hope all of you had a great Valentine's Day and we hope to see you at our Reserve Red Tasting on Saturday.  The wines should be spectacular - including several that I have raved about in this blog.
