Reunion Drinks

As I said last week, my old college roommates and some college friends came over to have a reunion.  It was a great time.  Amazing how we had not been together in over 20 years, yet it was almost like no time had passed.  I brought a couple of items home to try.  First, I had some Big Sky Moose Drool Brown Ale.  I guess a blog has to be honest, so I'll just call it OK.  Certainly not my favorite.  I'll have to try it again and their other products at our Beer and Wine Riot this weekend.  So many people have raved about it that maybe I missed something.  I then had one of the New Belgium Cherry Beers (maker of Fat Tire).  This one I really enjoyed - not overpowering cherry.  Subtle and tasty.  This beer is only available in some of their mix packs.

Finally, I opened a bottle of Volpaia Balifico Tuscan Red.  The wine had received a 90 score in the Wine Spectator and was released at $40.  We are selling it for $19.99.  I tried the wine last weekend at the store.  It was good, but I was told by Larry that it got much better after it had breathed for a couple hours.  He was right.  While most of it was drunk right after I opened it, there was some left for me to sample after everbody had left (so probably 5 hours after it was opened).  The wine was much better - more flavorful and much more open than when I tried it in the store.  Moderately full bodied.  Would be great with a steak.

That's it this week.  I will have more next week after our big Beer and Wine Riot this Saturday from 1-5 PM in store.  There is no charge for this event.
